What are your dreams? Do you use your talents to achieve dreams? Use strengths? Weaknesses? What keeps you from doing your thing?
Every day we meet obstacles that try to stop us from doing what we love and are passionate about. One of the biggest obstacles is the comparison of ourselves to others. You know what I’m talking about. Everyone has thought some of these same things. “My website isn’t as good as theirs.” “My writing sucks when compared to hers.” “I can’t stay organized like she does.” “Look how much better her pictures are than mine.” “My ideas are crap. His are always better.” “I just don’t see those little details like you do.” “Time? He must have all the time in the world.”
When you work on your craft, do not compare yourself to others to the point of distraction. Yes, it is okay and recommended to look closely at others’ works. Find out what you like about them, and what you do not like. Notice the differences in your choices versus their choices.
- This may simply be different styles. It does not mean one is right and the other is wrong.
- This person may have more experience than you. Okay, that may lead to a little more credibility, but don’t let that discourage you.
- If you must compare, use it as motivation. Get up and be the badass you are!
- Remember – In the end, it is still your craft – your baby – your dream.
Do your thing!
Give yourself a little pep talk and get back to work! Lay out the path to your goals. Dream. Then Dream Bigger!!
“Don’t compare yourself to others. Compare yourself to the person you were yesterday.” ~ Anonymous
